The longest nights have come again, another year grown old;
Time slows down as if it also thickens with the cold.
Summer's superfluities have warmer lands to roam,
So every soul remaining is a soul who's truly home.
Earth's tucked in deep and still beneath bright, spangled velvet skies,
Or shifting curtain-strings of rain, or snow's soft lullabies.
Come, settle in to know the dark, its magicks flowing deep
And in that quiet find the truths, the secrets, that they keep:
For though our sorrows must endure, joy always comes again.
However long the wait might be, the light will creep back in.
